# Roku

> Remote control reference for the Kernel Roku app

The Roku app is remote-first: everything below maps to a button on the standard Roku remote. Features not listed here (channel number entry, the Replay key, Channel Up/Down, an in-app audio/subtitle picker) aren't implemented yet.

## Live TV

| Action | How |
| - | - |
| **Previous channel** | Press **Down** twice quickly (within \~0.4s) while watching live TV. Toggles between the current and previously-tuned channel. |
| **Guide overlay (while watching)** | Press **Up** to open a see-through guide over the video. **OK** on a channel tunes to it. **Back** returns to the category tabs; **Back** again closes the overlay. |
| **Favorite / Unfavorite a channel** | While the Guide is open, press **Options (\*)** to open a dialog with **Favorite Channel** (or **Unfavorite Channel**), **Record Program**, and **Cancel**. This acts on whichever channel/program is currently focused. |
| **Record a program** | Same **Options (\*)** dialog as favoriting. **Record Program** only appears for programs that haven't started yet. |
| **Favorites category** | Once you've favorited at least one channel, a **Favorites** tab appears first in the category list on both the Guide and the Channels screen. |
| **Search** | Press **Up** from the Guide's category tabs to reach the search box. |
| **Stop watching** | Press **Back** to stop playback and return to the screen you came from. |

### Picture-in-picture (PiP) channels

If your admin has set up a PiP channel (multiple audio sources on one channel), double-pressing **Down** while watching it cycles between audio sources instead of switching channels, with a toast showing which source is now playing.

## On-demand (movies & TV)

| Action | How |
| - | - |
| **Resume / Restart** | The movie detail screen shows **Resume from HH:MM:SS** (with a separate **Restart** button) once you have progress saved, or just **Play** if you don't. |
| **Seek** | Use the remote's **Rewind** / **Fast Forward** (or **Left**/**Right**) during playback. This is Roku's built-in trick-play. |
| **Skip Intro / Skip Credits** | A button appears automatically during the intro or credits. Press **OK** to skip (to the end of the intro, or to just before the episode/movie ends for credits); it also auto-hides after 8 seconds if you ignore it. |
| **Sort & filter** | On the Movies/TV Shows grid: sort by title, year, rating, date added, and more; filter by genre, year, content rating, studio, or network. |
| **A-Z jump** | Press **Right** from the grid to open an alphabet jump strip. |

## Recordings

Press **Options (\*)** on a recording to delete it.

<Note>
There's no in-app audio track or subtitle picker on Roku beyond the PiP audio-swap above, and no quality/version picker. These use Roku's system-level behavior where available.
