# Signing In

> Connect any Kernel app to your server

Every Kernel client signs in the same way: a server URL, a username, and a password. There's no QR code or pairing code flow on any platform today.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Server URL">
    Enter your server's address including the scheme and port, for example `http://192.168.1.50:9014` or `https://media.example.com`. (The web app skips this step since it's already being served from your server.)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Username and password">
    Use the admin account from setup, or an account an admin created for you in **Settings > Users**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Roku opens straight into the Live TV guide after signing in, rather than the Home screen.
</Note>

  Linking a Kernel account (admin, web only)
</h2>

This is separate from user sign-in. From the user menu, admins can **Link with Kernel** to connect the *server* to a kernelmedia.tv account. If that account has an active Pro or Lifetime license, this is what unlocks Pro features like Remote Transcoding; see [Pro & Lifetime Features](/pro-features). It doesn't affect how individual users sign in.
